Little Stars Sunday School

For many years Junior Church was at the centre of the work St Cross undertook with its children and young people.  However as church attendance declined overall so did  attendance at Junior Church. A key part of the parish strategy between 2004 and 2006 involved developing clergy links with the local primary schools via assemblies, exploring resources for children’s work, holding Children’s activity days, involving children in specific services and looking to have toddler group in church.

Since 2018, we at St Cross have placed great store by the place of her children and children’s ministry within the life of the church. The past few years has seen the advent of a number of initiatives for children:  the setting up of Sunday School (‘Little Stars’); the involvement of children in the planning and leading of All Age Worship; the creation of a small borrowing library for children; the design and purchase of pew bags for very young children and a children’s corner.  St Cross Chruch holds the Child Friendly Church Award.

Little Stars Sunday School, for children of primary school age, runs once every two weeks, and is led by a team of trained volunteers.

We hope that our Sunday School will give children the foundation for a lifetime of faith.

What will my children learn at Little Stars?

Children explore the Gospel reading of the day through questions and discussion, activity sheets and arts and crafts. Children share their learning with the whole church at the end of the notices.

Will my children make friends at Little Stars?

Absolutely. If you attend the services regularly, your child will be part by a small group of familiar faces. As the children grow in their relationships with the leaders and other children, they will also gain the confidence to grow in their faith.

How do I register my children?

If it's your first time at the church, you'll be asked to complete a form with your details. All children who attend church are welcome to attend Little Stars.

How can I be assured that my children are safe?

Safeguarding is our highest priority. All our volunteers are DBS checked and receive appropriate training. For more information, please speak to Fr. Chris.

If my child has additional needs, will they be catered for?

If you have a child who might need a little extra support, we'd love to work with you to make their experience amazing! Please get in touch so we can discuss what level of support might be suitable.
