Giving
St Cross is not and never has been a cash-rich church. The modest income we earn is generated in a variety of different ways. These include rental from Vodaphone, Gift aid, Fees from marriages and funerals, Loose cash, Non-Gift Aid, Donations, Fundraising, Interest, the 250 Club, Room Hire, Candle Sales, Remembrance Book and more recently the St Cross Breakfast Cafe. The installation of an antenna for Vodaphone in our tower not only increases mobile coverage and access to high-speed broadband for homes and businesses in the area, it also provides us with a valuable source of rental income. In the past month we have renewed the agreement we hold with Shared Access Limited so as to secure this income going forward. Although in the past two years our congregation has increased in size, the income we receive through giving has not.
We are currently spending more than we are earning. Utility bills, Church Running Expenses, recent Architect fees, Salary and Support costs together with diocesan fees, upkeep of services, General Maintenance, the Food Bank, Admin, Little Stars, Donations and a host of other expenses mean that we are operating in the red which is worrying.
Our main outgoing is the Parish Share. This has rightly increased year on year. Although we have the option not to pay our share in full, this can only be considered as a last resort given how much the Diocesan Board of Finance (DBF) rely on the parish share to resource ministry and mission in our diocese as well as to meet the costs of stipendiary clergy.
